A couple of months ago I read an
editorial column in the
Edmond Sun taking Sen. Jim Inhofe to task for his skeptical stance on global warming. The piece was crying out for a rebuttal, so I brought it to the attention of my friend David Deming, a geophysicist at OU and an OCPA adjunct scholar. Deming did in fact pen a response which was published in several newspapers, including the
Edmond Sun and, more importantly, the
Washington Times. What's more, Dr. Deming was invited to
testify on the matter this morning in the nation's capital before a full committee hearing of the Environment and Public Works Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Inhofe.
Ideas have consequences. Sometimes a little piece in a community newspaper can set in motion of series of events culminating in congressional testimony.
