Fiesta Recap
Just got back from the Fiesta Bowl with my son Lincoln, shown here in, yes, a Marcus Dupree jersey (what else would a Sooner fan wear to the Fiesta Bowl?). We have been to many, many college football games together, but this was the most exciting one we've seen. Even though the Sooners lost, we had a great time. Check out the boy's impressive photo gallery here, here, and here.
We were chatting with a waitress at the resort where the Sooners stayed, and she said the Oklahoma players were "the most cordial, polite, gentlemanly team we've ever served." Which was good to hear. She added, "They eat a lot."
That hook-and-ladder play that Boise State executed was as magnificent as it was depressing. It stings even more after considering a conversation I overheard in the security line at the airport this morning. Sooner linebacker Rufus Alexander was chatting with two Boise State players, who remarked that their coach had prepared a lot of trick plays for the game. When Rufus mentioned the hook and ladder, one of the Boise State kids marveled, "That play never works." Ouch. Except when it does.
One more thing: To show my bipartisan bona fides, I snapped this photo of Lincoln with Dan Boren, a Democrat who represents Oklahoma's second congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
