Ideas Have Consequences
The Associated Press reports here (also here and here) on “what could be a trendsetting state tax break for families” – giving stay-at-home moms a credit on their Oklahoma state income taxes. “At this point, we’re not aware of other states with laws like this one,” says a spokesman for the National Conference of State Legislatures. The AP story continues:
The idea first surfaced a couple of years ago in a joint letter-to-the-editor by Brandon Dutcher of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, a conservative think-tank, and David Dunn, research and projects director for the Oklahoma Family Policy Council, a nonprofit group associated with the national Focus on the Family organization of James Dobson. That’s two trends in one week! Somebody shoot me if I try to start a third.
“We’re delighted to see the Legislature is moving forward,” Dunn said. He also said he knew of no other states with such a program.
