How Dare You Petition Your Government If You Don't Agree With Me!
Several Oklahoma signature-gatherers are circulating petitions in an attempt to get the proposed Oklahoma Civil Rights Initiative on the ballot. (I for one signed the petition and I encourage you to do the same.) The operative clause of the proposed initiative reads: "The state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education or public contracting."
But some folks very much want the discrimination and preferential treatment to continue, and they're not content to wait and make their views known at the ballot box. Here's some recent footage from north Tulsa of a really unpleasant woman harassing and intimidating a mild-mannered black lady (a "step 'n' fetchit," the harasser derisively calls her) who is simply trying to petition her government.
