No More Selling Indulgences
You've probably seen news reports that U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, has taken an interest in the spending habits of religious-television personalities Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn, Eddie Long, Joyce Meyer, and Paula White. In the current issue of Time magazine ('Going After the Money Ministries'), reporter David Van Biema provides two very encouraging quotes from Christian leaders which perfectly express my thoughts on the matter.
World magazine editor Marvin Olasky is quoted as saying, "Grassley has a shotgun, and lead is spraying all over the place, but I'm looking at the good that can be done."
Even more promising is a quote from J. Lee Grady, editor of Charisma, a magazine in which some of these characters purchase advertising. Says Grady, "If God wants to use a Senator to help the American church clean up its act, then I say bring on the Reformation."
