Trimming the Fat
The Associated Press reports that "House Speaker Lance Cargill plans an interim study this month to look at the number of agencies the state has and how many might be consolidated or eliminated to boost efficiency in state government." On Tuesday my colleague Steve Anderson and I will testify at this interim study, telling legislators that Oklahoma has too many government employees (we're an embarrassing 5th in the nation in the ratio of government employees to private-sector employees) and discussing specific agencies that are ripe for elimination or consolidation. Hopefully by trimming the fat legislators will then be able to reduce our state income tax.
