How Lloyd Noble Contributed to the War Effort

Sixty-nine years ago today, a British petroleum engineer named Philip Southwell knocked on the front door of a home in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Lloyd Noble was surprised to see the chap, but he heard him out. And therein lies a tale of how an American oilman did his part to help defeat the Nazis.

It's a fascinating tale, one the historian J. Rufus Fears told Friday at OCPA. Look for it soon in print or on OCPA's YouTube channel.

Dr. Fears explains how Lloyd Noble drilled for oil in ... Sherwood Forest.
