Thanks for the Memories

ESPN is reporting that Oklahoma basketball coach Kelvin Sampson is leaving to become the head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers. Lincoln and I are pretty bummed about it, but we have many fond memories of Coach Sampson from his annual father-son camp, held annually over Father's Day weekend. (Best memory? Father's Day 2003, when we bested the other father-son combos and won the 2-on-2 "Cutthroat" competition.)

My all-time favorite Sampson quote? Explaining that a coach never knows if his team is going to have a hot or a cold shooting night, Sampson remarked: “When the ball leaves their hands, then it’s up to the molecules and God.”

Best wishes to Coach Sampson. If he hosts a father-son camp at Indiana, he can call it the “Hoosier Daddy” Camp.
