Life Is Personal, Not Political
I bumped in to Cal Hobson today at a restaurant in Norman. Hobson was a longtime Democrat state senator, one of the most liberal Oklahoma legislators in recent memory. And I do mean liberal. I literally cannot think of one public policy issue on which we agree. Indeed, last year in an extended and colorful oration on the Senate floor, Sen. Hobson referred to "those goofballs down at OCPA."
Nevertheless, today at the restaurant we shook hands and exchanged greetings. I congratulated him on his new job at OU and introduced him to my son. He introduced me to his wife, Elaine, who also shook my hand warmly. As Ben Stein likes to say, life is personal, not political.
