Wonkish and Boring, But Somewhat Important

In a column in today's Oklahoman, my colleague Steve Anderson and I make the argument that expanding Medicaid is a bad idea.
You'll recall that Medicaid started out as a welfare program covering the truly indigent. Unfortunately, over time it has morphed into a welfare program with a growing number of middle-class recipients, crowding out private alternatives. As U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt recently noted, "For every 10 people that go on a publicly funded plan, six of them leave a private plan."
